The reason to clone HDD to SSD
Clone HDD (Hard Disk Drive) can help us quick back up our important data or upgrade our hard disk without any data loss. When we bought a new SSD, and want to try its new features without reinstalling the operating systems and programs. Then we need to clone the old HDD to the new SSD. This article is going to introduce an easy and safe way to achieve the goal.
Suitable Software to Copy HDD to SDD
Finding a professional software to clone the traditional hard drive disk to a new SSD is so important, AOMEI Partition Assistant, as an all-in-one partition manager, maybe a good choice to clone HDD to SSD safely and easily.
- Â Â Only the unallocated space could be selected as the destination place to contain the source disk.
- Â Â The size of the unallocated space must be equal or larger than the source disk size
- Â Â When select target disk in the pop-up window, please remember to tick â€śOptimize performance for SSDâ€ť at the bottom
With AOMEI Partition Assistant, we just need to select the source disk, right click on it and choose â€śCopy Diskâ€ť. Then follow the instructions, we can clone the old HDD to the new SSD. The following screenshot is the main interface of this software, take a look at it.
After cloning the HDD to SDD, we can modify ACHI in bios to maximize the performance of SSD.
After selecting â€śCopy Diskâ€ť, the program will popup a dialog box that provide 2 methods for us to copy disk. â€śCopy Disk Quicklyâ€ť means to only copy the used space and support resizing disk (Recommend), while â€śSector-by-sector Copyâ€ť is used to copy the whole disk no mater it is used or not.
There will be three ways to adjust the partition size on the destination disk after selecting the target disk. “Copy without resizing partition”: means keeping the same size of source volumes. “Fit partitions to entire disk”: means the program automatically adjusts the rest size of volume to fit the entire disk. “Edit partitions on this disk”: is to resize volume according to the need.
